Intellectual Disability Camp : 17th – 19th June 2012

Along with the two other camps this year , the Centre for Lifelong Learning has decided to run a camp for children with Intellectual Disabilities. This is to ensure that the needs of every group of children are catered for. The camp is open to all children between the ages of 8 – 16 who have an intellectual disability. To be eligible to apply for this camp the child must

  • The child is living at home with parents/carers (not in residential care)
  • Be able to walk unassisted (no wheelchairs)
  • Be school aged
  • Have an intellectual disability

The camp environment allows the campers to have social interaction with children of a similar age and abilities as well as positive interaction with the camp leaders. Emphasis is placed on building self-esteem and how to make and keep friends.

The camp will also give children the opportunity to develop independence away from families – new places, new activities and new friends are stimulating and enjoyable! Families in turn, can enjoy peace of mind that their family member is having a good time at camp.

We aim to provide a happy and relaxed atmosphere to allow the campers to have an enjoyable and richly rewarding camp experience. Camp leaders have an understanding of people with intellectual disabilities and special needs. Special attention is paid to:

  • peer relations
  • building self-esteem
  • learning new life skills … all in a safe and unique environment.

Daily activities will include :

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Nature Studies
  • Games
  • Cooking & Baking
  • Computer Fun

Cost for 3 days: €110

Review of Easter Robotics Camp

Over the first week of the Easter holidays the Centre for Lifelong Learning held a 2 day Robotics Camp for children aged between 9 and 16. The camp was divided into 2 workshops. On the first day children were given an introduction to Robots and Programming, Building Robots and Visual Programming while day 2 focused on Android Programming, Application Development and learning how to remote control their robots. The Camp was a success as it was booked out from a early stage. It has received very positive feedback from children and their parents.

The children came from a variety of schools around Sligo. Instant friendships were formed through working in small groups and teams.

The Robotics Camp is just one of a series of camps being organised by the Centre for Lifelong Learning this year. The next camps will be run throughout the summer.

Children can enjoy our Alternative Summer Camp where activities will include cooking and baking, arts and crafts, basic first aid and lakeshore activities.

If your children are in 1st or 2nd Year, why not take part in our Pre Junior Certificate Irish Camp where kids will have the opportunity to improve their Irish language skills with a range of activities conducted “as Gaelige“.

If you require any information on any of our camps please visit our website www.cll.ie/activity or call 071 91 35625. To avoid disappointment it is best to book early as we operate on a first come first serve basis.
